Beware

Beware how far apart you place
The things you say and things you do;
Whole worlds can be lost,
Fallen through that gap,
And people too.

Make your words smaller if you must —
Wipe them all clean of that gold paint
And let them be tin
If that’s all they are —
Better a quaint

Terrestrial thing

Than an imagined star.
